DECLUTTER YOUR GUTTERS

An effective gutter system does more than just funnel water - it prevents water damage to our home and keeps out unwelcome pests.  Keeping your gutters clear extends the life of your gutter system, saving you frustration, time and money!

Overflowing gutters is a clear sign that your gutters need clearing.

Regularly clear your gutters

You can hire a professional gutter clearing service, or clear them yourself.  Be warned - it’s a messy job, so you’ll need to wear gloves!  And make sure you always work safely when you’re at height, applying basic ladder safety.

Clear out debris with your hands or with a scoop, then flush the gutter to get rid of remaining dirt and check the flow.

Check downpipes are still free flowing - if not, clear them by turning your hose on full force and work it up and down the spout.  Remove the nozzle first so it doesn’t dislodge within the pipe!

Inspect your gutters to ensure they are still securely attached, without cracks or breakages.  If they are in very poor condition, it may be time to replace them.

Install gutter protection

Gutter protection (sometimes called gutter guards) will help prevent leaves and debris from entering your gutters in the first place, preventing the messy and sometimes dangerous job of frequently cleaning your gutters.

Prevent pests from making their homes in your gutters with a protection system.

Gutter guards can be retrofitted to your existing gutter system, customised to the correct sizing.  Some options can even be coloured to seamlessly conform to the look and aesthetic of your home without looking clunky or out of place.

Gutter protection does not make your gutters completely maintenance-free.  You will need to clear them occasionally to ensure they remain effective.
